Doula Support in Derby

I offer grounded, relaxed birth and postnatal doula support in Derby and the surrounding areas.

Whether you're planning a home birth, preparing for an induction or caesarean, exploring VBAC/HBAC, or simply looking for more continuity and reassurance throughout your journey, my role is to walk alongside you with responsive support that adapts to your individual needs.

I support all kinds of families and birth preferences, creating space for you to feel informed, listened to, and more connected to your own intuition throughout pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

Based near Derby, I regularly support families across Mickleover, Littleover, Allestree, Chellaston, Melbourne, Borrowash, Ockbrook, Draycott, Long Eaton, Breaston, Sandiacre, Ilkeston and surrounding areas.

My Approach

My approach is calm, adaptable, and centred around you. Every family, pregnancy, and birth is different, so rather than encouraging a particular path, I focus on helping you understand your options, feel supported in your choices, and build confidence in what feels right for you.

A big part of doula support is relationship building. Throughout our antenatal sessions, we spend time getting to know one another and talking through your hopes, concerns, and questions. By the time labour begins, I am not a stranger walking into the room, but a familiar face who already understands what matters most to you.

Alongside practical and emotional support, I can share evidence-based information, comfort measures, and simple tools to help you feel more grounded and prepared. I believe there is value in both research and intuition, creating space for your own experiences, feelings, and instincts to play an important role in the decisions you make.

And naturally, there will be plenty of snacks and cups of tea along the way too.

"Amy is worth her weight in gold — twice over! She’s the warm, reassuring presence every woman needs in their corner during birth. There truly aren’t enough words to express the depth of my appreciation. After a previous home birth that ended in a transfer and C-section, I knew that if I had any chance of achieving the HBAC — that I so desperately wanted for my second (and last) baby, I would need a doula. Choosing Amy was, without question, the best decision and investment I could have made for myself and my baby." - Louise (Derbyshire)

Birth Support in Derby

I regularly work alongside midwives across the local maternity trusts, supporting families at Derby Royal hospital, as well as at home.  Unlike Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire does not currently have a dedicated Home Birth team, which can sometimes mean families need a little more continuity, reassurance, and advocacy when planning to birth at home or make decisions that sit outside standard pathways. Supporting people in navigating those conversations calmly and confidently is a really important part of my role.

When the doula–midwife relationship is working well, we can form a strong and collaborative team around a family, each bringing a different but complementary skillset. As a doula, I don’t provide any clinical care, but instead focus on emotional, physical, practical, and informational support, while midwives care for any medical needs that arise.

At times, additional clarity or advocacy may also be helpful. In these moments, I can help facilitate conversations, ensure my clients feel heard and informed, and support them in making decisions that feel aligned with their needs and values, while maintaining calm and respectful communication throughout.

When midwives and doulas are able to work well together, it can create real birth magic for the families we support.
