Birth, Unpacked

Grounded in evidence, Led by you

(Formerly Twelve Moons Hypnobirthing)

Twelve Moons Birth, Unpacked is a modern antenatal course, rooted in evidence and shaped by real birth experience. Moving beyond traditional hypnobirthing, my intimate group course offers space to understand your options, ask questions, and prepare for birth in a way that feels informed, supported and your own.

If you are looking for a course this summer, I am running my last cohort of Antenatal Hypnobirthing in June/July before transitioning to Birth, Unpacked in September

Small group antenatal classes (max five couples) in Beeston

A different kind of Antenatal Class

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the constant noise around birth and parenthood, conflicting advice, fear-mongering, strong opinions, and pressure to do things a certain way.

Birth, Unpacked offers something different. Rather than telling you what your birth should look like, these antenatal classes create space for you to understand your options, build your confidence, and work out what feels right for you as a family.

This is a small group course, designed to give you more space to slow down and explore your choices in a more personal, in-depth way than larger antenatal classes.

Grounded in up-to-date evidence and shaped by my hands-on experience supporting a wide range of births, you’ll leave with practical tools for labour, alongside the confidence to navigate the maternity system, make informed decisions, and approach birth as a team feeling excited and ready.

"I cannot overemphasise how helpful I found Amy's course. It's genuinely completely  changed the way I feel about labour and birth. Amy was so kind and understanding, it's a completley non judgmental space and I'm so sad it's over! -" Emily

What we cover

Over the space of 10 hours together, we take a deep dive into:

  • Birth physiology — how birth actually works, and how to support it

  • Understanding your options — including induction, pain relief, and common interventions

  • How the maternity system works — and how to navigate it with confidence

  • Advocacy and decision-making — so you and your partner can make informed choices that feel right for you

  • Biomechanics and active birth — movements and positions to support the progress of labour

  • Hypnobirthing tools — simple, practical techniques to work with the intensity of labour

  • Birth partner support — how to feel confident, involved, and useful throughout

  • Postnatal planning — thinking about recovery, nourishment, support, and the early days with your baby

The tools you'll learn aren’t about one “type” of birth—they’re practical, flexible, and relevant no matter how your birth unfolds.

A few extras

  • Optional 1:1 session available -  Your Birth Plan, Unpacked (tailored support for your individual plans)

  • Thoughtfully curated goodie bag - Including a few handmade treats and an antenatal course handbook to support and consolidate your learning

  • Postnatal planning guide (video resource) – helping you think through the early weeks after birth

How I teach

My classes are intentionally small, relaxed, and conversational. There is plenty of space and time for discussion, and for you to form genuine connections with the rest of your group.

  • Evidence-based information shared clearly and without bias

  • Small groups - a maximum of five couples

  • Not prescriptive - there is no “right way” to give birth, and you certainly can’t “fail” at it. It’s all about how you feel, and what's important to you as a family

  • Strong focus on birth partner support - your partner will get just as much from this course as you do

  • A strong sense of community - you’ll learn from each other as well as from me, and I always set up a group whatsapp so you can organise meet-ups

Any kind of birth partners are welcome - it doesn't have to be your actual partner,  and if you don't have one, I'll be yours while you are with me!

A little bit about me

As a doula and antenatal teacher, I’ve supported over 100 local families, and the insight I’ve gained from attending a wide range of births (at home and in hospital) is at the heart of everything I teach.

I started my business in 2020 after my own first birth led me into this work and completely changed how I saw birth and the support around it. I am a fierce advocate for autonomy, and about people feeling informed, respected, and able to make decisions that are right for them - one size definitely does not fit all.

It’s always been important to me to be honest about the harder parts of birth and parenthood, and I never shy away from talking about pain or intensity. But while birth can be challenging, messy and unpredictable, I’ve seen (and experienced) how positive, powerful, and deeply meaningful it can be.

If you feel ready to get into all the real nuance of birth and parenthood with me, I'd love to have you on one of my courses.

This course is for you if....

  • You want to understand how capable and strong you are

  • You want to feel seen, supported, and respected throughout your birth experience

  • You want a welcoming, inclusive space that respects all families and identities

  • You want an informed, involved birth partner

  • You want to understand a range of different birth scenarios, and what they might look like in practice

  • You want to build a supportive local network around you

This course might not be for you if ....

  • You don't want to question and challenge the flaws in current maternity care

  • You don’t want space to reflect on how you actually feel about birth

  • You’re looking for a prescriptive, one-size-fits-all approach

  • You’re not open to hearing a range of perspectives or possibilities

If you would like an even more personalised experience....

While most families choose the group version of Birth, Unpacked, I also offer a limited number of one-to-one antenatal education packages for those wanting a more tailored and flexible experience.

These private sessions are shaped entirely around your circumstances, questions and needs and can be delivered either at your home if you are local to Nottinghamshire or Derby, or online if you are further afield.

If you’re searching for hypnobirthing classes or antenatal classes in Nottingham or Derby Birth, Unpacked offers a small group, evidence-based alternative that focuses on decision-making, confidence, and real-world preparation for birth.
